The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people
to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site.
CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
The Eaton Rapids Area Community Response Team (ERACERT) was started in 2003, in February of 2004, 24 members graduated after completing 24 hours of training. Since that time, ERACERT member have added 8 new members from the Class of 2005.
Members of ERACERT continue to train with Eaton Rapids Fire Department as well as assisting the Eaton Rapids Police Department with Traffic Control during local parades as well has neighborhood patrols during Trick or Treat on Halloween.

ERACERT received the Presidential Gold Award for Volunteer Service for have given over 1000 hours in 2005 and 2006.
