| You
may have been hearing about the City’s “GIS” or “Geographic
Information Systems.” GIS is an intelligent mapping system
that allows the City to collect, track data using “real world” geographic
coordinates. This information is useful in mapping data and preparing
planning reports.
The City has invested in aerial photography to use as the foundation
of the GIS. The next phase in its development includes:
- Planimetric
(ground feature) mapping
- Parcel boundary overlay
- Utility mapping
- Database development
GIS is a long-term commitment. The more data entered into the
system, the more useful it is as a highly effective planning tool.
In
the future, we hope to offer GIS maps via our web site. Stay
tuned!
